If you want to enjoy watching AoT, I recommend sticking with the anime. The story is still good because it is based on AoT, but the movie itself isn't as good as some hardcore fans would like you to believe.
They could have easily made another part instead of skipping half the story (they didn't technically "skip" it as it's a different story, but it still feels too short).
Feels like they left out a whole lot just to make the movies shorter. The characters aren't given any back stories making them feel shallow, insignificant and impossible to relate to or even like/hate them, and the story progresses too fast because of this. Even without comparing the movie with the anime, it's not that good. But, compared to the anime the movie is simply terrible. Other than that they're not so terrible (or at least I didn't notice it as much), it's just that that scene feels as cheap as those 20 yearold power rangers fight scenes. My critiques are that titans are animated poorly as seen in the final battle between the raging titan and all the normal ones, at the end of the first film.

Keith & Jomy decide to fight Grand Mother and are fatally wounded.Just a warning to anyone who hasn't read the manga and only watched the anime or is currently watching it (I'll try not to spoil anything). Acknowledging Keith's decision, Grand Mother's programming moved to phase 4: eliminate Mu factor in birth progress, and order Keith to kill Jomy. Keith broadcast this revelation for all humans to see, urging them to finally take over the decision and not relying on SD system any longer, while choosing to maintain the system for the sake of controlling human as a bet on human's future. As such, the Mu survived, confirming their superiority the only problem being that the Grand Mother system has flawed programming and cannot accept the Mu. Unable to decide, the SD system was programmed to leave Mu genes intact in birth control process, only to carry out the extermination when the gene carrier reached adulthood the purpose was to check whether they could survive the stress and became the next phase of revolution. The final truth about the Mu genes is revealed: before the creation of SD system, scientists discovered the mutant Mu genes and arguments ensued as to whethere they were only a flick of mutation or the next phase of revolution.
